This is going to be fun. It is the Williams - Sonoma baking cook book. There are some really yummy looking pie recipes and an entire chapter devoted to chocolate. Now for the bad news, I won't have an oven until Friday when Sears comes to fix it. Why? Because I haven't begun to spend money on home repairs, that's why. The bottom heating element in my oven looks like it grew a tumor and when I tried to make lasagna yesterday threw white-hot sparks out of itself at an alarming rate. I turned the oven off because I am fairly certain that it is not normal for the oven to burst into flame when I use it.

This is why I don't go anywhere without a packet of kleenex. That's not yellow dust in the pictures above, just lots and lots of pollen. Of course, the cats walk through it and then helpfully sleep on my pillow. I have much to be thankful for.
Also, I took these pictures just before 8:00 in my back yard and it was dark enough to require a flash. Sigh.

This is a continuation of last night's project when I made 18 squares of this color combination. Compare it to the earlier version - the blues here are slightly darker than the other blues. Last night I sewed the squares together and I just finished pressing them tonight. I would have pressed them last night, but I failed to figure out how to properly test an iron to see if it is hot. By the way, if you are wondering, the way to test an iron to see if it is hot is not to touch it. Ask me how I know. I attempted to work through my second degree burn by soaking my finger in a glass of ice water while pressing squares with the other hand. I pressed a couple, but realized that this might be futile. I spent the rest of the evening watching NCIS reruns with my finger in a cup resting on an ice cube. The darned thing hurt through the night so when I went to bed I put two ice cubes in a ziploc bag, wrapped it and my finger up in a towel and that's how I slept. Sometimes it really does pay to live alone - the cats never question this sort of behavior.
A big shout out to Jenna - only a week to go!

Sine die is just around the corner. Committee action ended for me this week and I just have to work my bills through the floor process. It will mean some late nights and weekends, but the worst is over for now. I want it to be officially over because I need to get some hiking in. My boots are ready to be put on and my backpack is ready to be stuffed full of the ten essentials. I even plan to update my first aid kit since I am fairly sure I am out of ibuprofen and bandaids. The picture here is of an avalanche lily from last year. They are rapidly becoming my favorite flower - just for their ability to lay dormant under several feet of snow and then to burst open when the spring thaw hits. Fragile and beautiful - can't wait to see them. Mount Rainier, melt down soon so I can come and visit.
