Saturday night quilting

I have recovered from my brush with the endodontist on Thursday. I will have more dental adventures in the future when I get my crown, but for now all is well in the world. Except that isn't entirely true, because I'm on antibiotics and can't drink alcohol until I am through with them. Since I can't have a nice glass of red wine, a Shiraz is what I would have had tonight, I thought that I might as well stay busy and do some quilting. I'm making a total of 40 of these triangle blocks. Twenty of them are done with green as the large triangle in the block and I will repeat this with blue as the large triangle in the next batch of twenty.

I actually think that the way I did this was easier than using the template, but don't let those people at The Quilter Magazine know that I've gone rogue. I sewed the triangles to the strips I made earlier, cut those down to 4.5 inch squares and then sewed a smaller blue triangle to complete the square. I can't believe those poor fools wanted me to use a template. Ha. I say it again, Ha.

Baby Love Quilt

The squares - all ten of them - are done. The next step is to sew together two 1.25 inch by 42 inch strips to make the borders of the triangle blocks. There is also a template that the pattern refers to but which I cleverly threw out. That will make this more exciting but not impossible. We are going through the looking glass on this one, people. I'm making 8 of these long strip sets and am about half done. Then it is on to creating my own work around for the missing template.

Baby Quilt

A friend of mine is expecting his first baby, a son, in June. I am very excited for him and have decided that I have to expand my mad quilting skills to include gifts to non-family members. The pattern is shown above, but I won't be using ducks or pastels. You can see the fabrics I've chosen and I'm also branching out a bit because I've purchased flannel for the backing and the binding. The lady at the quilt store was very persuasive about how cuddly and warm that would make the quilt. The poor little guy will probably roast under this now, but she made cooing noises when she said this and I fell for it. Cuddly, flannel it is. I've finished cutting all the pieces and am now putting the squares together. A completed one is shown in the last picture. I will be making 10 of those squares and then some triangle blocks as well.

The cats have discovered the flannel backing and approve.

Arts and Crafts Squares Quilt

The piecing is complete on the Arts and Crafts Squares quilt. I finished it and laid it out on the couch to admire and Scout immediately jumped on it to give herself a bath. I also think that this has something to do with the fact that I just ironed the section she is sitting on and it is quite warm. She is a little heat seeking missile. I still haven't picked up the backing or the batting yet, but maybe I'll be able to quilt it this weekend. Session schedules make it hard to plan for the weekend and I realized today that I haven't had a hair cut since December. The haircut might be my activity of choice this weekend.

Arts and Crafts Squares Quilt

I'm laying out my squares to decide where to put what square. Unfortunately, my living room isn't quite big enough for this little project. At any rate, I have started to put the pieces together and the bottom picture shows one row completely pieced. I guess it is time to think about buying backing.
